Dr. Katz is Frasier on LSD. This cartoon is based on stand-up Jonathan Katz and is psychobabble routine. Most of each episode centers on Dr. Katz and usually a couple of sessions with patients played by fellow stand-ups or other celebrities. While there is some humor here, none of it jumps out as rip-roaring funny. Then there’s the infamous “Squigglevision”. To me this makes the darn thing near impossible to watch. The gyrating animation gives me a headache. To review this set, I couldn’t watch more than one episode per sitting. I’m told the show was much better in season one, which I’ve never seen. Too bad, really, but there isn’t anything worthwhile about this cartoon.

Squigglevision…’nuff said..
Audio
The 2 channel mono is what it is. You can hear the dialogue, and there’s nothing else required.
Special Features
This is a 2 disc set with a few extras on disc 1:
A pair of audio commentaries have too much dead air. You won’t find any more entertainment here than the show itself. There are updated “follow-ups” on a couple of the featured patients, but even this stuff is boring unless you like to hear Steven Wright go on and on and on. Finally you find yourself asking: “What’s he talking about again?”
Final Thoughts
I like irreverent comedy. I’ve been a South Park junkie for over a decade. I just can’t seem to wrap my head around this show. I wanted badly to like it but just couldn’t. Did I mention how much I hate squigglevision? It’s my job to suffer sometimes so that you don’t have to. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it. You can avoid this crap. I had to watch it. Still, “I’m glad that’s past”.
