Easily the one of the weirdest (if not the weirdest) concepts to ever grace the small screen, Space Ghost Coast to Coast is a bizarre talk show hosted by a minor 60’s cartoon hero Space Ghost. Repeated animation clips are used to have Space Ghost “interview” such luminaries of the mid 90’s (the show ran on Cartoon Network from 1993-1996) such as Slash, Hulk Hogan, Bobcat Golthwait, Michael Stipe from REM (promoting Monster), and The Jerky Boys.
The basic premise has Space Ghost asking inane questions to hi... guests only to have them respond in equally confusing ways. The guests are interviewed before hand in the studio and clips of their discussions are spliced into the conversation with Space Ghost. Intertwined into this is Space Ghost’s ongoing conflict with the leader of the band – Zorak an man sized evil preying mantis and his producer Moltar – some evil dude with a bucket on his head. These two are constantly insulting Space Ghost. He is occasionally aware of this and responds by threatening to blast them with his space wristbands. This very unusual combination provided some rare moments of hilarity but all too often felt myself wondering “was there something more to that comment that I am missing?” This is definitely a show that would have it’s devoted fans, similar to shows like Mystery Science Theater 3000 (of which I was a big fan), but would have a hard time appealing to the audience at large.

Escape from New York not only made the career of Kurt Russell, and helped to grow the John Carpenter legacy, but has also gain cult status amongst many film fanatics. This film, with its unique plot, and raw style, was the first of its kind… and continues to be a fan favorite 22 years after its theatrical release.

If you like a high-energy action/comedy, you have met your match with Bad Boys II. Michael Bay has once again created a wonderful cinematic experience with this film. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have never been funnier; they have the best on-screen chemistry I have seen in a while. This sequel has more action then its predecessor, and is much more graphic… in a good way. Bad Boys was a great film that started Bay’s career, and Bad Boys II continues his legacy of high-energy action flicks.
”The...danger quotient is heightened and so are the laughs in this new installment as Miami narcotics detectives Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) and Mike Lowrey (Smith) become part of a high-tech task force assigned to stem the flood of designer ecstasy into Miami. X2:X Men United is the follow-up film to the original X-men film from 2000. The original film did a good job of setting up the universe of the X-men and introducing us to the core characters that the comic books have always centered around. This film expands on this universe and brings along some of the coolest characters from the comics, this being Pyro, a brief glimpse of Juggernaut and lets not forget Nightcrawler. In this film we see the good and band mutants joining forces to defeat a common enemy. This is a little disappointing as we get to see cool new good characters but not really any super new baddies, but it also keeps the storyline fresh instead of it just being the good mutants versus the bad mutants.

Adam Sandler and his crazy antics are back… this time, he is animated. I went into the viewing of this film with very low expectations; and although this is not a quality movie, it did turn out to be mildly more entertaining then I expected. This film is over-the-top and childish at time, but Sandler is comical as the voices of the three main characters, and the musical numbers are entertaining in a manner in which only Adam Sandler can provide. This movie will not be for everyone, but die-hard Sandler fans will p...obably be entertained.

The Tick was a live action show based on the wildly different super-hero of the same name. He was also featured in an incredibly funny animated series in the early 90’s that also ended way before it’s time. The Tick follows the comedic adventures of a muscular, but dim witted 300 lb powerhouse whose duty is to clean the city of evil-doers while shouting inane phrases such as the always catchy “Spoon!”
When I first heard that they were going to make a live action version of the Tick, I was very skeptical ...- but then I learned that they cast Patrick Warburton (Putty from Seinfeld) as the blue guy and I thought this could work. I was thoroughly impressed after seeing the pilot that they had truthfully captured the off-beat antics that the animated series perfected. Having Ben Edlund (the Tick’s creator) intimately involved in the creation of the series really paid off from the perspective that none of the Tick’s quirky charms were lost in his jump to the small screen; however poor marketing from Fox played a role in its too early demise.

The biggest band in the world did something completely revolutionary on their 2001 tour… they took a step back.
In the eighties and nineties, U2 was a band that became big. Huge. Their shows grew from arenas to stadiums, incorporating massive special effects, a giant lemon-shaped disco ball, and the largest video screen ever. As the productions grew, however, so did the costs, until the band was barely breaking even on the road, despite enormous audiences and absurd ticket prices. After some time off and a...new album, the band returned to the arenas where they first hit it big. This DVD set features the Boston, MA show from the Elevation tour in its entirety. The performance is not only fantastic, but completely honest and real. It is, as the saying goes, all that you can’t leave behind.

It has taken years to finally get a block-buster Hulk film produced, and the outcome has received mixed reviews. Grossing $132 million in the domestic box-office is usually nothing to sneeze at, but considering it cost $150 million to make the Hulk, it must still be looked at as disappointing. Many would argue that the animation was unrealistic, other would argue that it was amazing… each to their own. I, myself, found the film quite disappointing. I found the animation far too overdone, and the story to be lack...uster. I did really appreciate Ang Lee’s direction, but that is about as far as my praise will go for this film.

Many people would argue that T3: Rise of the Machines should never have been made; a new director, an unknown storyline, and a new actor playing John Connor. Others could not wait to see Arnie suit up as the Terminator one last time. Sure, the Rise of the Machines plot is somewhat questionable, but you sure do get a bunch of action packed into this film.
Arnold Schwarzenegger reprises his role of the big, bad, funny (yet not knowingly) terminator… but this time he is in for his biggest challenge yet, fa...ing off against a female terminator. Kristanna Loken does a good job as the newest Terminator, and the rest of the cast do an adequate job as well. This film may not hold a candle to the first two films in this series, it is still extremely entertaining to watch.
