Dirty Sanchez, the Welsh Jackass, or at least it’s something like it. Like Jackass, this little British show started on TV and has since made its way to the big screen, that of course is not where the similarities end. Dirty Sanchez, ‘They make Jackass look like the Royal Shakespeare Company.’ Well that’s what the say anyways, I disagree but they are definitely just as careless and insane as the Jackass crew. Dirty Sanchez features three buddies, Pritchard, Dainton, and Pancho as they completely disregard their health in any which way they can think. This film features several of these outrageous stunts in an uncut manner which boasts a lot of language, male nudity, and vomit. If you’re not interested in any of that you might as well stop reading here, but for those of you that can’t get enough out of watching people make an ass of themselves, please read on.
Right off the start I have to say that Dirty Sanchez contained a bit more talking than I would have liked, but some of the stunts were pretty outrageous. Well some of them like snorting wasabi, getting shot with paintballs, and Thai boxing have been done before by the likes of Steve-O, Johnny Knoxville, Ryan Dunn and crew there are a few here you wont want to miss. To start, have you ever wondered what it would look like to get liposuction without anesthetic? Well, I hope you haven’t taken the time to think about that, but you’re going to find out what it looks like anyways. How about having your good buddy drink the resulting ooze? These are just a few things that will be sure to captivate a younger audience and outrage the old timers.
Ultimately I like Jackass better, I’ve had some memorable times watching it on MTV back in the day, but Dirty Sanchez is a great alternative. However if you don’t think you’d like to see grown men tattoo and shoot their member, then I advise you not to watch it. Hell, on that note if you don’t want to watch grown men cut a part of their finger off, staple their tongue, and take all forms of cruel and unusual punishment, then stay as far away as possible from Dirty Sanchez. But I’m sure this Welsh Jackass is going to entertain a lot of fans from the MTV generation.
Video
Presented in 1.78:1 Widescreen Dirty Sanchez looks pretty much what you’ve come to expect from low budget movie, if you have seen Jackass you know what to expect. You will get the usual problems, such as soft imagery and grain, but never do either become out of hand. However colors look good, from the yellow puke to the red blood, everything here is realistic in tone. Surprisingly some of the scenery seen throughout the movie looks quite nice, from Japan to Mexico we are given quite a bit of diversity. Overall the transfer, although lacking in comparison to any Hollywood released movie, still does a good job presenting the films gruesome material.
Audio
Weinstein has included a 5.1 Dolby Digital track with Sanchez, and boy does it ever gross. Screaming, puking, peeing effects are all here and do they ever sound good…well in terms of quality I mean. What I found surprising was that these effects for the most part came through all the channels, creating a almost in person perspective The music which is used to divide the different countries plays twice as loud as the dialogue, something that was rather annoying. Like the video, the audio track does a good job presenting the films material. Aside from the balancing issues there isn’t anything else worth complaining about.
Special Features
Although we are only given two features, both will offer a solid two hours of entertainment.
- Audio Commentary – Commentary by Stars Matthew Prittchard and Lee Dainton and Director Jim Hickey.
- Deleted Scenes – We are given 50 minutes of deleted scenes, most of them worth checking out. One scene has Dainton sewing his mouth shut, some pretty painful stuff there. Some scenes do carry some overlap with other scenes, something that could have been edited out. If you enjoyed the movie, you will enjoy these scenes.
Final Thoughts
For me there is no contest, Jackass can have no imitators, but Dirty Sanchez is pretty entertaining. I never thought I would witness such blatant disregards for a persons own body, and as stupid as it is it had me laughing. The DVD contains some nice features that will add onto the stupidity witnessed in the movie. If you’re a fan of Dirty Sanchez this disc is worth the buy, and if you like Jackass then give this one a rent. On the other side of the coin, if you hate watching immature men condone some of the sickest and most obscene acts thinkable, stay far away from Dirty Sanchez
