The father & son team behind American Chopper are back for another thirteen new episodes in season two of this great Discovery Channel show. This time, the Orange County Choppers (OCC) crew gets down to the nuts and bolts of building 6 new bikes:
- Tool Bike
- Football Bike
- POW/MIA Bike
- Miller Welder Bike
- Celebrity Bike
- Liberty Bike
As usual, it’s extremely entertaining when the talent (Paul Jr.) mixes in with the temper (Pau… Sr.) as they engage in disagreements and last minute delays.
Similar to season one, the DVD set is produced in a 1:33:1 full frame aspect ratio. Overall, the picture quality is very good. In other words the colors, blacks, and contrast are pretty much at par with today’s standards. Shot is HD, it would have been nice to see a knock-out, widescreen presentation here.
As expected, the audio is in Dolby Digital 2.0 surround. Because the show is dialog driven, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround is not really necessary. However, one thing I noticed is that the audio is produced at a slightly lower level than in season 1 when measured at the same volume level setting on the receiver. Again, the sound is pretty much what you would expect out of a television series DVD release.
The special features lacked effort and creativity as it is very similar to the special features offered in season one. This was extremely disappointing as the only segment I found entertaining in season one was the Commercial Shoot Outtakes. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for season two as the Commercial Shoot Outtakes were dull and boring. The other special features on the disc include Paul Sr. Interview Clips, Photo Gallery, and Full Throttle Preview.
Even though the special features were disappointing, the show itself is still remarkable. As a matter of fact, the six new bikes that were built in this season will keep you coming back for more. I definitely look forward to the release of American Chopper Season #3.
