Back in the day, I had a passion for side-scrolling beat em ups. Whether I was fighting with my bare knuckles, super powers or sword and sorcery, I liked them all. There were so many good ones: Double Dragon, X-Men Arcade, Knights of the Round and more. Apparently Capcom wants me to channel my gaming self from the early nineties and bring me two awesome games of the genre: Final Fight and Magic Sword, better known as Final Fight: Double Impact.
True to the Xbox Live Arcade format, there are actually a lot of options here for the graphics. You can choose to have the game in classic mode harking back to when these games were in the arcade. Capcom goes one step farther with this and includes the look and feel of an actual arcade curved CRT monitor. This is retro style at its absolute best. More arcade titles should employ this method of preserving old school graphics.

Project Ten Dollar, 451 Weeks & Obama Doesn’t Know How to Work an XBox? - Welcome to the column that doesn’t know the first thing about politics but at least we are honest about it known as Dare to Play the Game.
I spent most of this week in between good ole World of Warcraft and Final Fight Double Impact. For Final Fight/Magic Sword, I took the time to beat each game (or in the case of Final Fight 3 times) at least once and get half of the achievements. I did however screw up the Guy achievement by accidentally switching to another character halfway into the game.

In September of 1993, an animated series using the wonders of stop-motion animation was broadcast on ABC. The name of the series was called Bump in the Night. It would run for twenty six episodes, spanning over two seasons. It was created and directed by Ken Pontac and David Bleiman. It also featured the vocal stylings of Jim Cummings, a man perhaps most famous for his Winnie the Pooh performance.
Mr. Bumpy (for his warts) is a small, green and purple monster who lives under the bed of a ten year old boy. He loves to eat socks, dust bunnies, snot filled tissues and other assorted things most people would consider disgusting. His disposition can be easily described as vile but yet easy going. Oh yeah, if you haven’t figured it out yet, he doesn’t brush his teeth.

Volume Five of the Animated Series known as X-Men is now upon us. Included here are the last fourteen episodes that haven't been put on disc for the masses. There is a lot going on in these twenty one minute chunks. There are some good things, bad things, funny things and more confusing things than probably should be in a children's animated show. So let us spend some time, the final time with our beloved mutant friendly superhero group.
The fourth season had left us on a climatic showdown. The four parter: Beyond Good and Evil had showed us some strange alliances as well as X-Men fighting together to save the day. Apocalypse was put away for another day as he could not defeat the mutant superheroes. Peace had come to the planet Earth even though we all the knew that it could not last. So we dive right into the final Volume of the X-Men.

Iron Man 2 comes out this week and is set to do fantastic business. Usually I’m a person who waits for movies to hit dvd and blu-ray and I’m already planning to when I can go see this movie. But one of the things I’ve come to appreciate over the years is when a big movie such as Iron Man 2 comes out, there are disc releases that dip into yesteryear and help to get you in the mood. Imagine my surprise when I was asked to review Iron Man: The Complete 1994 Animated Series.
To do this correctly, I really have to break up this synopsis into two parts. There is the first season and the second season. Trust me, they are so different from each other, I’m surprised they were released together. Everything from drawing style to the characters to the way they craft stories is different. It’s a fun ride either way but you’ll certainly prefer one over the other.

Fallout 3: New Vegas, Super Mario Crossover & When Will I Quit Gaming? - Welcome to the column that dares anybody to rip the controller from his cold dead hands known as Dare to Play the Game.
So, I looked at Tecmo Bowl Throwback all of last week and I simply could not bring myself to buy the darn thing. There is honestly only one reason why. The size of the players on the field. They are ridiculously small (in HD or Classic mode), to the point of picking one out for a particular play can be rather difficult. After a while I did get better with the demo, but never to the point where I felt comfortable. It’s a real shame and something of a disappointment.

Most of my growing up and living occurred in the 1980’s. From ages five to fifteen, I grew up in an era that was famous to many different types of cartoons. It helped to shape my personality, from bad jokes to that unmistakable sarcasm. So, it was easy to attract me to a cartoon set that showcased odds and ends from that familiar era. Join me as we take a step back in history, a history that hits very close to home.
The first toon we find is one called Goldie Gold & Action Jack. They fight by air, by sea and by the seat of their pants. They aren’t kidding. Goldie is a certified lunatic: she rides a helicopter indoors, jumps out windows and talks to hobos. Doesn’t she know that she is blonde and rich? Jack really isn’t all that Action, he’s just good at being lucky. The show is very gadget heavy and has a little Scooby Doo sleuthing thrown in.

Spectacular Spider-Man is back with his eighth volume and the final one for the 2nd season. As we saw in the last few episodes, it appears that Green Goblin is again rearing his ugly head and looking to get rid of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Furthermore, there are other super villains chomping at the bit to get back at Spider-Man for being put behind bars. Can Spidey survive this onslaught? Let’s find out.
Episode 24 opens up with Spider-Man in a battle with Molten Man at a local pool hall while Liz Allan (Peter Parker’s girlfriend at this point) and Mary Jane Watson are trapped behind the bar. We later find out that Molten Man is Liz’s brother: Mark who has a severe gambling problem. Somehow you know that Green Goblin is the cause of what is going on. Is Spiderman all-in or will he bust?

Level Creation in Dante’s Inferno, Three Years of LOTR Online & ESRB isn’t good enough? - Welcome to the column that wishes to submit a new rating of C (for Crap) to the ESRB known as Dare to Play the Game.
I’ve been playing some fighting games lately. As some of you know, I’ve been collecting old xbox original games and came upon a complete copy of Dead or Alive 3 for $5. I actually cracked it open a day later (I’m shocked too) and played the arcade mode through on a couple of characters. I’ve never actually played the Dead or Alive series but it isn’t too far a departure from say Tekken or Virtua Fighter.
